Fresh Christmas Decorating Ideas

by Joy Jordan, Assistant to Shirl A. Thornton

Over a decade ago, we loaded our children onto the trailers at the Christmas Tree Farm for a hayride into fields of evergreens where we chose and cut the family tree. It was the beginning of a treasured family tradition. Back then, we hauled diaper bags and sippy cups. Now my oldest is visiting from college and the youngest will be in high school next year but the fun of family quest for the perfect tree goes on.
However, there were several years when we lived in a desert area, and there were no Christmas tree farms nearby. During those years of having an artificial tree, a friend would send us a fresh evergreen wreath. It was a fun way to have that fresh Christmas smell and look in the house. There are other creative ways to incorporate evergreens into your holiday decorating plan. Check out these great ideas from

The Heart of the Home

by Joy Jordan, Assistant to Shirl A. Thornton

It is Thanksgiving morning and a happy chaos fills the kitchen.  Grandmother, who once bustled about preparing the feast, sits quietly off the side, content to hold the baby this year. Mother recounts the story again of learning to cook a turkey as a newlywed; she had not heard of giblets until it was discovered that she had baked the bundle inside of the turkey. Oops, no gravy that year! I marvel at how grown up my youngest daughter seems as she fills the deviled eggs without making a mess.  Jokes are shared and recipes swapped as children drift in and exit with stolen morsels.  The delicious smells of turkey, dressing and pie seem to imprint the experience deeper into our psyches as we add one more link to the invisible chain of family traditions that bind the generations together.

In celebration of the heart of the home, the kitchen, we bring you seven beautifully designed kitchens from Enjoy! To read the article, click here.
