It is Thanksgiving morning and a happy chaos fills the kitchen.  Grandmother, who once bustled about preparing the feast, sits quietly off the side, content to hold the baby this year. Mother recounts the story again of learning to cook a turkey as a newlywed; she had not heard of giblets until it was discovered that she had baked the bundle inside of the turkey. Oops, no gravy that year! I marvel at how grown up my youngest daughter seems as she fills the deviled eggs without making a mess.  Jokes are shared and recipes swapped as children drift in and exit with stolen morsels.  The delicious smells of turkey, dressing and pie seem to imprint the experience deeper into our psyches as we add one more link to the invisible chain of family traditions that bind the generations together.
